What Happens When a Podbean Payment Fails?

Your Podbean subscription automatically renews to prevent any interruption to your podcast hosting. However, if your primary payment method is declined or unavailable, here is the exact lifecycle of a failed renewal:

  • Step 1: Initial Failure Notice: You will receive a notification that the renewal payment did not go through.

  • Step 2: Automatic Retries: You do not need to manually resubmit immediately. Podbean will automatically attempt to charge your payment method on record 2 more times.

  • Step 3: Subscription Cancellation: If both automatic retry attempts fail, the subscription will be automatically canceled by the system.

  • Step 4: Account Locking: If the payment failure causes your account to become locked, you will need to unlock the account by reaching out to Contact@Podbean.com before a successful renewal can proceed.

How to Troubleshoot a Declined Credit Card

If your card keeps getting declined during the automatic retry window, the issue is typically on the issuing bank's side. Contact your financial institution to verify the following parameters:

  • Online Transactions: Confirm that online purchases and electronic funds transfers (EFT) are explicitly permitted.

  • International Restrictions: Because Podbean transactions may process internationally depending on your location, ensure international charges are allowed.

  • Security & 3D Secure: Verify that an aggressive fraud filter or missing multi-factor authentication (like 3D Secure) isn't blocking the charge.

  • Account Limits: Check that the transaction amount does not exceed daily spending or credit limits.

Note: If your bank cannot locate the block, we recommend updating your billing profile to a different credit card or switching your primary payment method to a verified PayPal account.
